LB922 Sun protection and vitamin D deficiency among racial groups

Introduction: Sun protection plays a role in skin cancer prevention, but there are concerns it increases the risk of vitamin D (VD) deficiency. Here, we examine sun dependent differences VD deficiency among racial groups. Methods: Serum 25(OH)D levels and protective behaviors staying shade, wearing long sleeves, using sunscreen) questionnaire responses 9143 adults were extracted from US National Health Nutrition Examination Survey 2011–2016. was compared between rare frequent users with age, sex, education, supplementation, milk consumption BMI covariates logistic regression. Results: Non-Hispanic Whites Mexican Americans who frequently stay shade more likely to be deficient than those rarely do so (OR 2.16; P<.001; OR 1.74; P=.039). use sunscreen less 0.60; P=.002).
